Prognostic and diagnostic anthropometric biomarkers of sarcopenia in a cohort of Egyptian patients with hepatitis C-induced liver cirrhosis

چکیده
Abstract Background Chronic hepatitis C (HCV) infection is a leading cause of liver cirrhosis (LC) worldwide with decompensation-related clinical sequelae. Sarcopenia currently recognized as fundamental complication LC owing to various mechanisms. This study aimed assess the role anthropometric measures sarcopenia in predicting outcome assessed by Child-Turcotte-Pugh (CTP) grade. Results A cross-sectional was carried out on 80 patients HCV-related different CTP grades. The diagnosis based 2018 definition according European Working Group Older People (EWGSOP). Muscle strength hand grip (HGS) and lower leg extension (LES). Assessment muscle mass performed measuring mid-calf circumference (MCC) mid-arm (MAMC). HGS varied significantly between grades, being highest grade C. Additionally, number diagnosed “definitive sarcopenia” using either HGS/MCC or LES/MCC Conclusions better predictor worse outcomes than LES. combination MCC LES potentially promising noninvasive prognostic biomarker disease.

Evaluation of miR-101 Level in Patients with Chronic Hepatitis B Virus Infection and Liver Cirrhosis
ABSTRACT Background and Objective: MiRNAs are small RNAs that are expressed in most eukaryotes, and can regulate gene expression by attaching to the 3’ end of target mRNA. MicroRNA-101 (miR-101) post-transcriptional regulation is important for host-virus interactions. In addition, miR-101 has a tumor suppressive role in liver cancer and metastasis, an...
متن کاملAutologous Stem Cells Transplantation in Egyptian Patients with Liver Cirrhosis on Top of Hepatitis C Virus
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Use of pluripotent stem cells is an ideal solution for liver insufficiencies. This work aims is to evaluate the safety and feasibility of autologous stem cells transplantation (SCT) in Egyptian patients of liver cirrhosis on top of hepatitis C virus (HCV). SUBJECTS AND RESULTS 20 patients with HCV induced liver cirrhosis were divided into 2 groups. Group I: included ...
متن کاملPerformance of diagnostic biomarkers in predicting liver fibrosis among hepatitis C virus-infected Egyptian children.
The aim of the present study was to identify specific markers that mirror liver fibrosis progression as an alternative to biopsy when biopsy is contraindicated, especially in children. After liver biopsies were performed, serum samples from 30 hepatitis C virus (HCV) paediatric patients (8-14 years) were analysed and compared with samples from 30 healthy subjects. All subjects were tested for t...
متن کاملPrognostic value of sarcopenia in patients with liver cirrhosis: A systematic review and meta-analysis
BACKGROUND Sarcopenia is a common syndrome in chronic diseases such as liver cirrhosis. The association between sarcopenia and outcomes, such as complications and survival has recently been described in various patient groups. However, study results remain inconclusive. Therefore, the aim of this study was to systematically review the impact of sarcopenia on outcome in patients with cirrhosis. ...
